My practice is confined to one region of the body and one family of problems — the colon, rectum and anal canal — because that is what it takes to be genuinely good at the hardest version of it: a low rectal tumour in a narrow pelvis, where the goal is to remove the cancer completely and still leave the patient in control of their own body.
